Whether it’s a fourth-generation baker reviving a family recipe or a home cook perfecting their first Bundt, I want to capture the heart of the process.
The Turning Point
In 2016, I pitched an article about the resurgence of home baking to a regional magazine. I expected it to be a minor feature, but it became one of their most-read stories of the year. Readers wrote with their baking memories, sending photos of hand-stained recipe cards and Sunday kitchen rituals.
That response made me realize my work wasn’t just about documenting trends but preserving and sharing traditions. It was the moment I fully committed to specializing in baking culture and cake-focused features.
What I Learned the Hard Way
Early in my career, I thought more words meant a better story. I’d cram in every detail, only to lose the magic in the noise.
Now, I know that the right detail—a grandfather’s rolling pin, the smell of orange zest in the air—can tell the whole story in a single sentence. Restraint can make writing more powerful.
