Portland, Oregon–based cake designer who believes every cake tells a story—technique matters, but heart makes it memorable.

My Story

I’ve always been drawn to baking, but my journey into professional pastry started humbly—late nights in my tiny kitchen, covered in flour, with my kids “helping” by sneaking spoonfuls of frosting. What began as a hobby quickly became a passion and a career.

I fell in love with cake as a medium for flavor and design. Bundt cakes with intricate molds, drip cakes with playful colors, and mirror glazes that reflected light like glass—each one felt like a little edible sculpture. Over the years, I’ve taught myself techniques through trial, error, and plenty of cake scraps, turning curiosity into a skill set I now share with others.

The Turning Point

About ten years ago, I was asked to make a wedding cake for a close friend. I hesitated—it was my first time creating something on that scale—but I said yes. For three sleepless nights, I measured, mixed, frosted, and held my breath as I stacked the tiers.

When the couple cut into that cake and guests asked where to order one, I realized this wasn’t just a favor. It was the moment I understood that my cakes could be beautiful and deeply personal for others. That one wedding order sparked countless others—and ultimately, a full-time pastry career.

What I Learned the Hard Way

Early on, I chased trends without thinking about my style. I burned out trying to master every possible design instead of focusing on the ones that inspired me.

It took years (and a few collapsed cakes) to learn that saying no to projects outside my style improved my work. Now, I choose designs that let me infuse creativity, story, and skill into every slice.

My Approach Now

These days, I focus on creating cakes that are as delightful to eat as they are to look at. I balance technique with storytelling—whether through a flavor pairing that reminds you of childhood or a design that reflects a milestone.

My culinary classes emphasize hands-on practice, from learning how to achieve a perfect drip to troubleshooting sponge texture. My students leave not just with a recipe, but with the confidence to make it their own.

What I Believe

  • A cake should taste as good as it looks—never compromise flavor for aesthetics.
  • Every cake has a story; designed with meaning.
  • Mistakes are edible lessons.
  • Creativity thrives when you master the basics first.
  • Sharing skills is as satisfying as sharing a slice.

I’m a mom to two energetic kids who are my official cake critics. When I’m not in the kitchen, you can find me hiking Oregon trails, experimenting with local produce, or sipping lavender lattes at my favorite neighborhood café.

My guilty pleasure? Watching baking competition shows and secretly judging the crumb.
